Shocks

Shock absorbers are an integral part of the vehicle suspension system.  They are designed to absord or dampen the compression and rebound of the springs and suspension.  They control the unwanted and excess spring motion.  Shock absorbers keep your vehicle tires in constant contact with the road.  When a shock absorber is worn, it will have a negative impact on the driving an braking of the vehicle.  The warning signs of worn shocks or struts are:

  • Instability at highway speeds
  • The vehicle tips to one side in a turn
  • The front end of the vehicle dives when braking
  • The vehicle’s rear-end squats during acceleration
  • The vehicle tires bounce excessively
  • Unusual tire wear
  • Leaking fluid on the exterior of the shock or strut

Struts

Shocks and struts help stabilize a vehicle’s movement, enhancing one’s control when you turn or brake, or accelerate and encounter turns.  Struts are the strutural component of most modern independent suspension systems and serve as a connection point between the wheel and vehicle body.  A strut assembly consists of two primary elements: the coil spring which supports the height, weight and stability of the vehicle; and the shock absorber which absorbs the bumps and vibrations from the road.
